Quick answer

In Bahrain, overtime is paid on your basic wage. Your hourly rate = basic salary ÷ 30 ÷ daily hours. Daytime overtime is paid at +25% (×1.25); overtime worked at night — between 7 PM and 7 AM — and on the weekly rest day or a public holiday is paid at +50% (×1.50), plus a compensating day off for rest-day and holiday work (Bahrain Labour Law No. 36 of 2012, Art. 54).

How overtime pay works in Bahrain

Normal hours are 8 a day and 48 a week (reduced during Ramadan). Hours worked beyond your normal schedule are overtime, paid at a premium on the basic wage — allowances are not part of the overtime base. Overtime is generally limited to 2 hours a day.

Daytime overtime carries a 25% supplement (125% of the hourly rate). Overtime at night — between 7 PM and 7 AM — carries a 50% supplement (150%). The same 50% applies to work on your weekly rest day and on official public holidays, and you also receive a compensating day off for rest-day and holiday work.

Rest days and public holidays

  • Working on your weekly rest day or a public holiday is paid at 150% of the hourly rate, plus a compensating day off.
  • Bahrain’s night window is wide — 7 PM to 7 AM — so more evening and early-morning hours qualify for the 50% premium than in some neighbouring countries.
  • This calculator prices day, night, rest-day and holiday hours separately so you can see each component.

How to calculate your overtime

  1. 1

    Find your hourly rate

Divide your monthly basic salary by 30, then by your daily working hours. Example: 480 ÷ 30 ÷ 8 = BHD 2/hour.

  2. 2

    Sort your hours

Split hours into daytime, night (7 PM–7 AM), rest-day and holiday, since each has its own rate.

  3. 3

    Apply the multiplier

    Day × 1.25; night, rest-day and holiday × 1.50 — each × the hourly rate.

  4. 4

    Add them up

The sum is your overtime pay for the period.
