Quick answer
In Oman, overtime is paid on your basic wage. Your hourly rate = basic salary ÷ 30 ÷ daily hours. Daytime overtime is paid at +25% (×1.25); overtime worked at night, between 9 PM and 5 AM, is paid at +50% (×1.50) (Oman Labour Law, Royal Decree 53/2023, Art. 71). Total working hours including overtime must not exceed 12 in a day.

How overtime pay works in Oman
The 2023 Labour Law requires your agreement before you work overtime. When you do, hours beyond your normal schedule are paid at a premium on the basic wage — allowances are not part of the overtime base. Total actual hours, including overtime, may not exceed 12 in a day.
The premium depends on timing. Daytime overtime carries a 25% supplement (125% of the hourly rate). Overtime at night — between 9 PM and 5 AM — carries a 50% supplement (150% of the hourly rate). Instead of paying, the employer may agree to give you equivalent paid time off.
Rest days and official holidays
- •Article 71 treats the weekly rest day and an official public holiday the same way: 100% of your daily basic wage in addition to the wage for the day itself — 200% of the daily wage in total.
- •Instead of the cash premium, the employer may grant a compensating day off — one day of rest for each day worked on a rest day or holiday.
- •This calculator prices rest-day and holiday hours at the full 200% rate; the day-off-in-lieu alternative is a separate choice the employer can make instead of paying cash.
How to calculate your overtime
- 1
Find your hourly rate
Divide your monthly basic salary by 30, then by your daily working hours. Example: 600 ÷ 30 ÷ 8 = OMR 2.5/hour.
- 2
Sort your hours
Split the extra hours into daytime and night (9 PM–5 AM), since night pays a higher premium.
- 3
Apply the multiplier
Day hours × 1.25 × hourly rate; night hours × 1.50 × hourly rate.
- 4
Add them up
The sum is your overtime pay for the period.
Worked examples
OMR 600 basic, 10 daytime overtime hours
- Hourly rate: 600 ÷ 30 ÷ 8 = OMR 2.5
- Day overtime: 2.5 × 1.25 = OMR 3.125/hour
- 10 × 3.125 = OMR 31.25
OMR 960 basic, 8 night overtime hours
- Hourly rate: 960 ÷ 30 ÷ 8 = OMR 4
- Night overtime: 4 × 1.50 = OMR 6/hour
- 8 × 6 = OMR 48
