Notice period calculator
Quick answer
In the UAE the notice period is between 30 and 90 days (Federal Decree-Law 33/2021, Art. 43). If either party ends the contract without serving the notice, they owe the other a notice-period allowance equal to the wage for the notice days: pay in lieu = (monthly wage ÷ 30) × notice days, on the full wage.

How UAE notice pay works
Under Article 43, the notice period agreed in the contract must be between 30 and 90 days. Either the employer or the employee may end the contract by giving written notice.
If the party ending the contract does not serve the notice, they must compensate the other with a notice-period allowance — the wage the employee would have earned during the notice, calculated on the most recent full wage, with the daily wage being the monthly wage divided by 30.
How pay in lieu of notice is calculated
- 1
Find the notice length
Use the notice period in your contract (30–90 days).
- 2
Find the daily wage
Divide your full monthly wage by 30.
- 3
Multiply
Daily wage × notice days = the notice-period allowance.
Worked examples
AED 12,000 wage, 30-day notice
- Daily wage: 12,000 ÷ 30 = AED 400
- 400 × 30 = AED 12,000
AED 12,000 wage, 60-day notice
- Daily wage: AED 400
- 400 × 60 = AED 24,000
Frequently asked questions
How long is the notice period in the UAE?
Between 30 and 90 days, as agreed in the employment contract (Article 43).
Is notice pay on basic or full salary?
On the full wage — your most recent salary — with the daily wage being the monthly wage divided by 30.
What if I resign without serving notice?
You owe the employer a notice-period allowance equal to the wage for the unserved notice days. The same applies if the employer ends the contract without notice.
Does the notice period change during probation?
Probation has its own shorter notice rules under the law; this calculator covers the standard 30–90 day post-probation notice.
Is notice different for limited and unlimited contracts?
Since February 2022 the UAE no longer has unlimited contracts — every private-sector contract is now a fixed-term (limited) contract under Federal Decree-Law 33/2021, and the same 30–90 day notice applies to all of them.
Does this apply in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and the free zones?
Yes. The Article 43 notice rules apply through MOHRE across Dubai, Abu Dhabi and every emirate, and to most free zones. The financial free zones DIFC and ADGM set their own notice periods, so check your contract if you work in one of those.
