Quick answer
In Qatar, overtime is paid on your basic wage. Your hourly rate = basic salary ÷ 30 ÷ your daily hours. Daytime overtime is paid at +25% (×1.25); overtime worked at night, between 9 PM and 6 AM, is paid at +50% (×1.50). Total working hours including overtime must not exceed 10 a day (Qatar Labour Law No. 14 of 2004, Art. 73–74).

How overtime pay works in Qatar
Normal hours are 8 a day and 48 a week (reduced to 6 a day / 36 a week during Ramadan). Any hours worked beyond your normal schedule are overtime and must be paid at a premium on the basic wage — allowances are not part of the overtime base.
The premium depends on when the extra hours fall. Daytime overtime carries a 25% supplement (paid at 125% of the hourly rate). Overtime worked at night — between 9 PM and 6 AM — carries a 50% supplement (150% of the hourly rate). Total actual hours, including overtime, may not exceed 10 in a day except to prevent serious loss.
Weekly rest day and public holidays
- •Your weekly rest day is normally Friday. If you must work on it, you are entitled to a compensating day off, plus premium pay for the hours worked.
- •Article 74 entitles you to the due basic wage plus an increment of at least 150% for rest-day or public-holiday work — 250% of the hourly rate in total, not just 150%.
- •This calculator prices day, night and rest-day/holiday overtime at their full statutory rates; the compensating day off remains a separate, additional entitlement.
How to calculate your overtime
- 1
Find your hourly rate
Divide your monthly basic salary by 30, then by your daily working hours (usually 8). Example: 6,000 ÷ 30 ÷ 8 = QAR 25/hour.
- 2
Sort your hours
Split the extra hours into daytime and night (9 PM–6 AM), since night hours pay a higher premium.
- 3
Apply the multiplier
Day hours × 1.25 × hourly rate; night hours × 1.50 × hourly rate.
- 4
Add them up
The sum is your overtime pay for the period.
Worked examples
QAR 6,000 basic, 10 daytime overtime hours
- Hourly rate: 6,000 ÷ 30 ÷ 8 = QAR 25
- Day overtime: 25 × 1.25 = QAR 31.25/hour
- 10 × 31.25 = QAR 312.50
QAR 4,800 basic, 8 night overtime hours
- Hourly rate: 4,800 ÷ 30 ÷ 8 = QAR 20
- Night overtime: 20 × 1.50 = QAR 30/hour
- 8 × 30 = QAR 240
